Abel Ferrara, an enfant terrible and one of the most significant personalities of American independent cinema, started his controversial, scandal-filled career with The Driller Killer and Ms. 45. His films often examine the characters’ inner psychology and the environment through emotional and physical violence. Set in dreary New York, they boast a film-noir atmosphere. Abel Ferarra’s films include renowned actors such as Harvey Keitel, Christopher Walken, Steve Buscemi, and Willem Dafoe, who plays the Italian director Pasolini in the film of the same name. Apart from live-action films, Ferrara also focuses on documentary direction. The New York native has lived in Italy for the last several years, and he also makes his films there. Abel Ferrara will receive the Kristián Award for Contribution to World Cinema at IFF Prague – Febiofest.
